Long ago, before even Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire was published, cinnamon badge was writing a fantasy story of her very own. Sadly, it remains unfinished and in numerous fragments, but someday -- one day -- cinnamon badge hopes to see it finished and in print, so she can share her story with readers! For now, though, cinnamon badge will post one of those fragments (one of the few readable ones, in her opinion) for your reading pleasure. This was written at some point in 2003, when she was sixteen or seventeen years old, and requires a tiny bit of introduction: Characters needing background: Annabelle Farlate Maraille: Annie is the mother of the main character, Benjamin Maraille, and is queen of Dargen, in the south of Dasquedoria. She has red hair and blue eyes, and is over six feet tall, like most southerners. (All the characters in this world have blue eyes, for reasons I sadly cannot remember.) She is married to the king, also Benjamin Maraille, but is in love with her brother-in-law, the dashing Arthur Tarchakad. At the point this snippet takes place, they have been having a torrid love affair for roughly five years. (I have this thing with infidelity, evidently.) Annie has one son, Ben, whom she has never seen -- because he was born so sickly and weak, he was essentially sent away to a holiday estate to die. He is, however, still alive, and is three years old at this point. Annie doesn't know who his true father is. (Jesus complex much?) Arthur Tarchakad: Heir of the most powerful family in all Dasquedoria, he is the handsome, mysterious Duke of Wydain. He has brown-blond hair and boasts many battle scars. He is the Admiral of His Majesty's Navy, and is responsible for ridding the South Seas of pirates, for which he has been honored with a place in the Royal Lists. Some say that the only reason he has not been awarded the Starstone in the pommel of his sword -- a sign of the highest capabilities in swordplay -- is because the head of the Swordsmen's Council despises him for some past misdeed. Arthur is married to Annabelle's younger sister Eliara, and with her has one son, Robert, who is seven. Alina-Ciera Algorath is Annie's youngest sister, and is married to a duke. I think. I don't have the family tree in front of me. Events: Dasquedoria is in the thick of the Holor Wars with Andeadrak, a nation to the north across the great Lastian Ocean. (I don't remember why they're being fought.) Arthur has been gone for a year already, and Annie is desperate to have him return safely. At this point, the king is still ignorant of their affair. (He learns eventually, though not for another five years.) ( News from the Front Lines )Tags: original fiction Current Music: Happiness is a Warm Gun / The Beatles
